Continental carbonate accumulations are widespread in Southern Italy ; specifically, they are known in Sicilia, Sardegna, Lazio and Puglia. These formations are particularly frequent in the northern part of Puglia, where climatic conditions are most favourable for their genesis. Calcretes in Puglia have varying morphologies, probably following their position in landscape and the effect of human activity. While researches are still undergoing, still posing new problems about the origin of some carbonate accumulations, some hypothesis about the calcrete formation by pedogenesis are discussed.Les accumulations carbonatées continentales de type, «calcrete» sont très répandues dans l'Italie du Sud; elles sont particulièrement bien représentées e...
